Emphasizes lender representation and commercial real estate transactions
Named as one of Virginia’s “Go to Lawyers" for commercial real estate law, Chris DeMers focuses his practice on commercial lending and real estate transactions. Chris has documented and closed more than $3 billion in commercial loan transactions secured by real estate, business assets, deposit accounts, marketable securities, and accounts receivable.
Chris serves as outside lender's counsel to regional and community banks, handling transactions from term sheet through closing. His practice encompasses commercial real estate loans, development and construction loans, C&I and working capital facilities, SBA loans, and asset-based lending. He has particular experience in cannabis industry lending, where he navigates the intersection of state regulatory requirements and federal law, and in multi-state transactions involving complex collateral structures.
Chris's work extends beyond document drafting to include title insurance and survey review, UCC perfection and priority analysis, entity authority and organizational due diligence, and negotiation of intercreditor and subordination arrangements. He regularly counsels bank clients on loan structuring, covenant design, and risk allocation throughout the life of a credit facility.
Chris also has experience in commercial real estate transactions, commercial leasing, entity formation, and community association governance.
